Josip Broz Tito was a Yugoslavian communist revolutionary and politician who led the Yugoslav Partisans during World War II and became the first president of Yugoslavia. He governed Yugoslavia from 1945 until his death in 1980. Tito was known for his non-aligned policies, which kept Yugoslavia out of the Soviet Union's sphere of influence and allowed the country to establish ties with both Eastern and Western nations.
Herta Haas was a German author who wrote a book titled "Ich war Zwangsarbeiterin bei Tito" ("I was a Forced Laborer under Tito"). In the book, which was published in 1992, Haas described her experiences as a forced laborer in Yugoslavia during World War II. She was captured by Tito's Partisans in 1944 and forced to work in a camp near Sarajevo. Haas was eventually released after the end of the war and returned to Germany. Her book gives a unique perspective on Tito's rule and the treatment of forced laborers in Yugoslavia during the war.
